December 2013, the “Sala delle Colonne” of the Museo della Scienza e della Tecnologia, at Via San Vittore 21 in Milan
, will see the assignation of the first Mother Teresa of Calcutta
“Hymn To Life” International Award, promoted and organised by the “Ali Spahia” Scientific-Humanitarian Association, in the person of Nausika Spahia, President of the Association and former Consul General of the Republic of Albania in Milan
The Association, based in the Political Sciences Faculty in the University of Pavia
, has been operating since 2005 in the scientific-humanitarian field with the aim of organising and offering care and assistance in Italian hospitals to seriously ill people (mostly children) from countries with low economic growth; to contribute to the promotion of the development of health services in those countries; to promote conferences and bursaries for students and graduates in medicine and other fields from those countries.
The “Hymn To Life” award – designed and created by the famous contemporary artist of Albanian origins, Helidon Xhixha – was born from the idea of rewarding women, men and associations who produce excellent results in the scientific research or whose contribution significantly increases the quality of life of the socially disadvantaged.
The award was established in honour and in the name of Mother Teresa of Calcutta
, the little nun of Albanian origins who with her social undertakings, infinite charity and outstanding altruism, made a name for herself as one of the greatest figures of the 20th century. The main aim is that of launching a powerful message that raises awareness and has a social impact.
“Hymn To Life” is the award for social undertaking for important foundations and personalities in the fields of science, culture and business. A recognition of great importance and international prestige which has had the patronage of bodies such as the Cabinet
, Lombardy Region, the Province of Milan
, and the Italian National Chamber of Fashion.

Special Award: to the people of Lampedusa, the authorities on the island and all the workers and humanitarian staff who with great abnegation, professionalism and generosity are dealing with the drama of immigration. A special award for a community that is constantly engaged in a works of solidarity and humanity. Mayor Giusi Nicolini collects the award.
Special Prize for Art: to Riccardo Cocciante
– Special Guest of the evening with some of his most famous songs – for having sung in his 40-year career of life in all its shades, rendering homage to the truest and deepest emotions, contributing to bringing together peoples and cultures with his popular works that have been awarded with unprecedented international success.
